There is nothing wrong using Google translate or machine translators as long as you're not purely relying on them. I use KanjiTomo myself when I encountered Kanjis I never seen before. The main problem with machine translators in Japanese is they struggle to form sentences around particles. Seriously, anyone with good knowledge of using Japanese particles and basic vocabulary with help from dictionaries and KanjiTomo can translate just about anything.
