Before I answer your question with what I think is going to happened after the last page let me say this…. When sensei visit her Hanako’s dad restaurant (sheltering from the rain {it was destiny, he could have gone to anywhere in that city, remember sensei didn’t know that was where Hanako is living}) sensei ordered a tempura shrimp udon she didn’t know how to prepared that (symbolism for inexperience) you can translate that to she wasn’t ready and that symbolism is tied to her and sensei relationship (in the sense of staying with him (forsaking her future) without getting the opportunity to further herself (learning, growing up, mature more, etc. in life)…

Now after that you can see that she was really a big help getting sensei accustomed to his job (usually that is what a Wifu will do to her Darling-kun {Hint, wink, wink}) sensei is dense but he also notices that but being the older one and his teacher (remember Japan strict society rules) he didn’t have the courage to confess to her that is why he wanted her to be the one who confess and he gets his wish granted, in fact after they had sex for the first time he was glad and didn’t felt any guilt. He even improved his teaching skills (was more comfortable in his job) thanks to that (Hanako literally & metaphorically speaking soothed sensei)... Fast forward to the big reveal and what I think what would happen…

I truly believe that sensei is going to stay with her... Date her and in a future marry her...

The first monologue after the big reveal (transferring school) and I quote “I choose work over love” is key here he was not denying he love her (he is a grown man and a professional and if he wants to kept his job {his actual income} he has to avid by the job condition) … followed by this monologue “Everything up until know was just playing around Hanako had already prepared for this conclusion” referring to the word she said after confessing and I quote: “Even if it’s just a physical relationship, please…” (she was a shy girl and that was his trump card to get her beloved sensei, even if it was for a short period of time {be intimate with him}) But by this point it is clear that the two were clearly past the physical relationship, they were truly in love with each other but they didn’t have the chance to express it properly (the transfer prevented that {they were no longer able to spend time together}).

Before the second monologue he promise her to go to her dad udon shop to try her tempura shrimp, this is also a big factor (he agree to that {it is evident he want to see her again} take responsibility even if he didn’t express it in all of those pages) the monologue after agreeing to see each other again in the future is also a big key to understand the end in my opinion “nothing in this world can’t stay unchanged but this time is different” the two changed after that fateful encounter in the udon shop. Also you can add to that meaning that been far apart from each other no matter how many days, months & years pass by wouldn’t be indefinitely and if the chance to meet again present he/she would be true to their feelings... secondly when he said “it is not that I had a change of heart; I want to see it to the end. For Hanako’s sake” at this point he is reassuring us readers that he has fallen in love with her (since the beginning the one who wanted to cross the line was him)…

One year...

She was practicing 1 whole year and failing the tempura test until that fate full reencounter with sensei (her father said to her she pass and then sensei appear…) in fact, page 15 foreshadowed this sensei with a smile in his face said: “Hanako’s shrimp tempura udon – ♪” then his monologue says: “Hanako is going to graduate in a year she’s always said that she want to go out with me properly when that times comes” so guess what it is one year sensei kept his promise and both of them have mature plus now they don’t have to hide their relationship anymore and Hanako knows that that is why she was whit teary eyes in the last page… And they lived happily ever after! = Happy end! ヾ(＾▽＾)ﾉ
