Chimera Ant Arc was overrated.

1. Gon being angry and powering up because his friend dies is something that literally happens in every shounen series ever. It doesn't make him a deconstruction or a complex character just because he's a goofball most of the time and got angry. Even Goku, Naruto, Luffy did the same shit. Not to mention the asspull later on negates the whole weight of the situation.

2. Ant King and Komugi's subplot was rushed and not fleshed out enough. Trying to make such a big deal out of it later on felt rushed and forced. Komugi herself was one-dimensional and was not a good character, same applies to Alluka later on.

3. Revealing that a character had a bomb inside him the whole time isn't clever writing. Netero barely did anything in the previous arcs, his death was underwhelming.

4. Random edgy scenes for shock value doesn't equal great writing. (original) Kite barely had any character, Ponzu had no character, Pokkle had no character, etc.
