@The Chronicler It's kinda complicated. Ellie is immune, but has a bit of the virus still in her. I think they said that if she bit someone, that they wouldn't turn into a Clicker. It was when you played as Ellie and Joel was out cold, she bit one of the guys chasing her. I'm not sure if I'm right on this one, but I believe that's what they said.

@Daymz0008 Ellie does have the virus inside her, but she has some kinda thing in her brain that grants her immunity to it. I don't think she can infect others, as that guy she bit didn't show any signs of turning nor did his bite seem to show signs of infection, which is fast-acting since as seen with Tess' bite. But I might be overthinking here.

Just a spoiler warning in case anyone doesnt know about it

For starters: why did they have to fatally cut Ellie's brain out when we can perform surgery on the brain in even today's age without killing the patient?
Hell we've been performing brain surgery over the millennia with a high rate of success, if i remember correctly, in a ancient Egypt
Secondly why didn't they try to get her to infect others to increase sample size? I mean its morally wrong, but surely there must be some death-sentenced convicts around and I'm sure its morally justifiable if its for the sake of humanity
Thirdly why the hell didnt they just give her to the Government/Military after finding out about the "immunity"? Sure Government are all asshole-ish authoritarian cunts, but that can just be blamed on the Fungal-end-of-the-world-infection, in all honestly they probably have the highest amount of funds, scientists and people looking for a cure in them, hence They would most likely be able to solve the problem much easier.
But no, The resistance tries to hide it so they can use it for their own goals, even if it means risking the very "cures" life just to avoid letting the government get it.

The worst part is that just because she hasn't turned into an "infected" doesnt mean she wont, it might just be a slower acting fungi, meaning the cure might be pointless in the end

The entire game was just attempt to gain "feels" from the very beginning, its essentially an Oscar bait set in a zombie apocalypse

@Hagenrc from what i recall they were attempting to cure it "asap" even if it meant killing the cure so they could study it and attempt to synthesize a working cure from it for the "important members of society that were infected"(Government officials being the main listed ones)

Bruh. You need to check yourself before you wreck yourself. That post was made 2 years ago. In August. How would they have seen the information necessary to determine if Ellie is still alive? Also, that was just a possibility. Until proven otherwise, the story direction can be whatever it wants to be. Just take XCOM and XCOM 2 for example: games about fighting aliens. Despite there being a completed ending, because players were finding the first game difficult on harder difficulties (to the point where many people chose to, or were forced to, restart the game), the company decided to make the sequel take place in a setting where you lost in the first game. If I remember reading correctly, they basically invalidated 2/3rds of the events in the first game because they decided that the humans (and the players) never made it past creating conventional weapons to be able to fight back against the alien invasion.

Also, just because a trailer doesn't show that she hasn't turned doesn't mean that she won't turn in the game. Why would the game companies spoil major plot points? Especially if they haven't created them yet? Does hagenrc have a pretty hard stance against the game? Well, sure. But that doesn't mean you have to get all bent out of shape.
