Historically, it could take a long time, but when it was done very differently, with the stake made to follow the spine, missing all major organs and exiting through the shoulder. Done the way the comic showed, she'd die very fast, if she even survived to the last stage, she'd asphyxiate as the stake is filling her throat, which would make it impossible to breath.
