You might want to make use you're using the original-sized images; for example, the second image is available in considerably higher resolution:

Luckily it's pretty simple to get the original size as long as you have the original file name since the URL for image from Twitter is nothing more than "pbs.twimg.com/media/" and then whatever the file name is + file extension, and then stick ":orig" on the end after the extension to get the original full size (albeit still ran through Twitter's JPEG compression).
