iirc the reason the story feels off is because the original commissioner stopped, and someone else paid to make the rest of the story. so this technically got a different writer partway through

I don't think the mother "woke up from hypnosis" because I don't think the helmet puts you under a permanent hypnosis state. I think the helmet just puts the thoughts you are trying to put into the persons head when you are actively wearing it and using it. So he first used it to put sexual desires for him into her head and now that they are there they are simply there and haven't gone anywhere, I would presume prior to the story she held no sexual feelings towards him at all. So when she learned those thoughts were only there because he put them there with the helmet, she was angry with him because she still has free will to think whatever she wants to think. However with the sexual feelings he put in her there she decided to punish him in a sexual way because she still wants him sexually now.
The twist only appears to be that she only got to use the helmet on him once before it stopped working. She used it on him to strength his sexual feelings even more than they already were and put a dash of being submissive in their relationship in his head as well. But she never used the helmet on his sister, she is simply a horny freak lol, and she hasn't used it to modify his thoughts any more after the first use. He is just being pulled by his lust by this point(which I mean just makes him like all the rest of us guys)
