Easy explanation. You saved the BW images in RGB mode with 32bit colordepth instead of greyscale with 8 bit colodepth. From the one test image I downloaded I estimate by converting the BW images to greyscale the total size could probably reduced by something around 40%.

Yeah your gallery size is dumb. Use Oxipng to fix it. It will losslessly optimize the pngs. Word of caution, remove all square brackets in the folder paths when running it though.
But your image resolution is also needless high. Normally you'd have it the same as the raw. Which is only x1500 for digital version!
