This girl is cute and genuinely cares for him
It's a nice change of pace from the usual Marushamo doujins

@feizipopo Judging from the first 6 pages that I compared, it seems perfectly good if you can't read it in JP or another language. It's not at the level of a rough translation. References to companies like Lawson and Godiva are even correct despite the censor character in Lawson. So many artists put out much worse (though usually it's just their own hand-edited MTL, not the work of someone who knows English).

But yeah, a few issues with this official TL. Like you said, she's his kouhai who works under him, but not strictly his employee since he's not her employer. Fairly non-literal TL which suggests someone who knows English well and has limited practical knowledge of Japanese, maybe assisted by a MTL, albeit doing a fairly good job most times. A few examples of bad phrases or errors: "ore no bun no bunto" translated to "get a bento for my part" instead of just "get my bento too", and "sou janakute..." translated to "wanna know something?" instead of "that's not it...", and "nakami watashi" translated to "it's all me" instead of just "it's [actually] me".

That's like saying that as long as the English side is good and coherent, accuracy doesn't matter since most people wouldn't know any better anyway.

Even someone with limited knowledge of Japanese would know that "Kouhai" means "Junior" and not "employee". Hell, the translator themselves literally used the correct word just the line before. So even from an English standpoint, it doesn't make much sense. I thought maybe they wanted to avoid repetition (though that still wouldn't have made it okay), but the original text box just has her name and age, so it's an actual rewrite for no reason at all (Also someone with limited knowledge shouldn't do commissioned translations anyway).

And it's not something that happened just this once. Every marushumo work translated by "@PeonyScans" that I bothered comparing with the raw has some partial rewritings of the sort here and there. (Yes, most of these are delibarate rewrites, not just mistakes)

By the way, I'm pretty sure that @PeonyScans is "Jasmine Tea." You can tell by comparing both of these:
/g/1563765/b91ac754bc/
https://kemono.su/patreon/user/32889068/post/42840971
So they are either the same person or PeonyScans basically shamelessly copied Jasmine Tea with just a few changes. Considering Jasmine Tea also got called out on their accuracy (/g/2123621/bf3cf930cf/), I'm going to assume the former.

If marushamo is aware and okay with that, then that's fine (I hope that's the case). If not, then he's basically getting scammed.

(Also, it's funny how people downvoted @feizipopo for basically telling the truth, while probably not knowing any better themselves.)

@moodyclaus Really? Half the english translations in the miniguy tag lately are barely legible, but the one you write a wall of text over and pull up thier whole history is a mistranslated word and the occasional tweak for better flow? Just hit the rewrite tag and put it in tagging assistance if it's really that bad. People weren't hitting downvote because they doubted feizipopo was right, as you note it's pretty common knowledge, It's because saying "what a wrong translation" over a single tiny listed mistake is rude.

The example here is neither a mistranslated word, since there was nothing to translate in the first place, nor "the occasional tweak for better flow," since it's clearly wrong.

I didn't actually sit down to read this one; I was just making a comment since those kinds of mistakes often happen with Murashamo translated works.

Like page 12 here, for example: /g/2818136/5982581593/

Are you going to tell me that making her say "angry" instead of "horny" is a "tweak for better flow" when both words are completely different and even Google Translate would have given you the correct translation? (Original is "すっごい ムラムラする" if you want to check.)

And it's one among many; there is just no point in sitting down to list all of them since official translations can get the rough translation tag or the rewrite one (though even if it wasn't one, according to the rules it's still not bad enough for the rewrite tag).

I have said it many times, and I'll say it again, I'm "okay" with genuine mistakes (well less from comissioned translators), but what I truly despise are deliberate rewrites like the case here.

Honestly, I might rather have an obviously wrong translation than a wrong translation hidden behind good English. At least nobody is being deceived in the first case.

>"It's because saying "what a wrong translation" over a single tiny listed mistake is rude."

A "tiny mistake" that can potentially completely the relationship between the characters. Also, when he made his comment and was downvoted, the title didn't have the Japanese part (I know since I'm the one who made the rename petition), and I doubt the people who downvoted him went out of their way to compare with the raw.
