@Hangingman115 The originals when I uploaded them were PNG. So if I had to guess the site does it for compression.

That format is the new crap format that Google came up and its generated automatically, it is great because it makes images extremely small in size without loss of quality - only problem is that no program opens them yet (at least for now).
