@Zelinko: Zounose is and never has been grimdark. Grimdark implies the story is dark and edgy for the sake of being dark and edgy. See: Stripe Pattern, maybe Asatsuki Dou. Zounose, on the other hand, has reasoning behind being dark, and even then isn't outright 'everything is horrible forever' anyway.
Not every unhappy story is grimdark.

This time he even add humor to the story. His stories have always fall a bit to the darker side, or as i like to think, the true side of touhou with layers added. This though was more straight forward and still nice to read as usual.

@ Zakuzelo: I'd reply that some of his stories are dark and edgy for the sake of being dark and edgy, while others have more thought put into it. For instance, Canni-can was really dark, but followed the flesh-eating thing to its logical extreme, while Kaminare suffered from internal inconsistency, gross misunderstanding of some fairly basic principles of Shinto, and erratic characterization.

Basically, I like zounouse, but he's really hit-or-miss. Sometimes he works, but other times I think he lets his zeal for "telling a dark story" overcome the more necessary zeal for "telling a story that makes sense."

Yakumi Sarai's work is wonderful as usual. Adding mild humor at every turn while keeping a dark undertone... Making me sad, making me laugh, pulling me down again, and then making me laugh again... Really makes me want to read more...

I disagree with your definition of grimdark. The word simply describes a setting/situation in a fictional story that is dark/depressing, which describes most of Zounose's work.

A minor consistency detail that's been bothering me is whether or not Sakuya still has both her legs in Zounose-canon. She gave up her right leg in Vintage, and since then, Zounose has avoided drawing her below the waist. The only exception is page 42 here, but her legs are blacked out. I'm curious because Momiji still has the necklace she made in Souku no Kiba, which means Zounose does keep consistency in mind when drawing.
